LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The course is divided into two parts. The first part intends to provide a reasonably in-depth knowledge of the individual processes involved in cognitive development and in school learning. The second part intends to provide a basic understanding of contextual influences on cognitive development and scholastic learning. Overall, at the end of the course the student will have a basic competence as a "learning analyst" able to detect shortcomings in the learning processes at different levels (pupil, class, school, society), analyze their causes and propose programs specific intervention.

A) Knowledge and ability to understand
At the end of the course the student must know:
- the basics of cognitive functioning and learning
- cognitive learning processes
- the metacognitive, motivational and emotional processes of learning
- Interactive and relational dynamics in the classroom that influence learning
- The quality of the school system and its influence on learning
B) Autonomy of judgment
At the end of the course the student must know:
- How to analyze the processes that influence cognitive development and success in school learning
- How to read and interpret research data on individual processes and contextual influences on cognitive development and scholastic learning
C) Communication skills
At the end of the course the student must know:
- How to use technical language to discuss the results of research on cognitive development and school learning
