For the final exam, students are required to study a textbook and a number of essays:
(1) TEXTBOOK
For basic knowledge concerning the course contents: C. Casadio, Strutture del Linguaggio e del Pensiero, PrimeVie Editore, Corfinio AQ, 2016.
Alternatively, the following textbook can be chosen: W. Lycan, Filosofia del Linguaggio. Un'introduzione contemporanea, Raffaello Cortina Editore, Milano.
2) ESSAYS
Students are required to read and critically analyze SIX essays form the collection (ANTOLOGIA):
P. Casalegno et al. (a cura di), Filosofia del linguaggio, Raffaello Cortina, Milano, of which, mandatory: G. Frege (Senso e significato/Meaning and Denotation) and P. Grice (Logica e conversazione/Logic and Conversation); FOUR other essays can be freely selected.
A selection of readings will be given by the teacher at the beginning of the course and during each lesson. Textbooks and readings are available at the course e-learning site FILI: https://elearning.unich.it/enrol/index.php?id=401
As an alternative to the essays of the Antologia, students can choose SIX essays or articles from those available at the course e-learning site FILI, of which at least two must be in English and including the essays of Frege and Grice.
3) PRESENTATIONS
Students will be encouraged to prepare oral and written presentations to be delivered at the end of the course or during the final exam. These presentations will allow the students to connect the main contents of the course included in the textbook with the arguments of the selected essays, paying particular attention to the specific languages studied in their currculum.
