Objectives

The course aims to complete the economic-business training of the student with theoretical-methodological and applicative contents useful
to deepen, in an eco-industrial perspective, the problems related to the analysis and development of industrial symbiosis systems at various
sectoral and territorial scales as well as to the assessment of the environmental impact.

Acquirable skills (Part B):

Knowledge and understanding
- illustrate some approaches and tools in order to face the issues linked to the management of the environmental impact

Autonomy of judgment
- acquire a critical approach with regard to the consideration and comprehension of the usefulness of the various approaches and tools of Life Cycle Thinking

Communication skills
- adequately use the technical terminology related to LCA and simplified LCA

Contents

The course aims at providing the methodological and operational bases for the analysis and the implementation of collaborative strategies for the
synergic management of material and energy flows between productive entities, commonly defined Industrial Symbiosis (IS) ad also the methodologies for the environmental impact assessment of products and processes. In particular, in Part B (3CFU) the methodologies for the assessment of the environmental impacts of products, processes and services, will be illustrated: Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and simplified LCA along with a series of software for their application (modelling, impact assessment, interpretation of the results), and Carbon Footprint.

Copies of the slides that will be used during the lectures will also be provided.

Teaching Methods

The course is structured in two parts (A and B) for a total of 48 hours of
frontal teaching, divided into 2-hours modules, according to the academic
calendar. The frontal teaching consists of theoretical lessons (lectures)
and also seminars held by business experts on the topics covered.

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

The final exam consists of an oral examination with an evaluation in
thirtieths. The object of examination reflects the topics treated during the
course. In order to pass the exam, a correct use of the terminology and a
clear and concise exposition that highlights the logical connections
between the aspects considered, is necessary.
