Prerequisites:

Basic knowledge of the scientific method, ability to logical analysis, ability to synthesise, mastery of the fundamental concepts of the methodology of the social sciences. Good ability to understand social science texts.

Objectives

The course contributes to the achievement of the educational objectives of the Degree Course, proposing to provide the necessary knowledge to understand the ontological, epistemological and methodological issues within social research, to the ability to carry out qualitative and quantitative evaluations. In addition, it provides the student with tools to understand the importance of the interdisciplinary method and research in the world of investigation.

Contents

Specialize experienced operators in terms of method, methodology and research techniques for the analysis of criminal phenomena, deviance and social security. It will be a question of confronting the concrete problems of empirical research in sociology and criminological sciences, even in the light of the study of sociological researches that have become classics. It also helps to train in the student a layered view of the complexity of social reality, in its relations with security policies and crime sciences. Deepening the issues related to the relationship between organized crime and the economic and financial system

- The paradigms of social research
- Two different way to know social reality: quantitative and qualitative research
Second part
- The value of the interdisciplinary method in the investigation system
- Elaboration of a doctrine and search for an interdisciplinary method
- Adherence to the logical-deductive scientific model and the inductive investigative method
Part Three
- Organised crime in traditional society
- The Business Mafia

• 72 hours of lectures, 9 hours intended for the holding of in-depth seminars on topics of particular interest with the intervention of experts, 9 hours intended for exercises and group work.

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

The verification method is substantiated in an oral interview, or in a written test, in which, through specific questions (at least three) concerning all the parts of the program, the degree of knowledge acquired by the student on the topics covered in the course will be ascertained, as well as the ability to know how to use critically and to be able to apply to concrete cases the notions assumed.
