Knowledge of systematic human anatomy, physiology, physics and biochemistry. Propaedeuticities in accordance with the teaching regulations of the Course of Study.

Objectives

The educational objective of the course is to guide students in the understanding of cardiovascular diseases of cardiac surgery. The course will consist of a series of lectures on the epidemiology, etiopathogenesis, pathophysiology, clinical and therapeutic solutions of the main cardiovascular diseases that are subject to invasive treatment, both conventional cardiac surgery and transcatheter surgery. The implications related to the pre-treatment work-up and the physiopathological implications involving the adoption of specific nursing modalities in order to orient learning towards a specific nursing framework will be specifically treated. In particular, aspects of instrumental monitoring, both invasive and non-invasive, which are specific to the preparation of the patient concerning treatment and monitoring of possible complications deriving from surgical treatment will be treated.

Contents

The Cardiac Surgery course aims to illustrate cardiovascular pathologies with indication to cardiac surgery treatment through basic notions of etiopathogenesis, epidemiology, pathology aimed at the invasive treatment, surgical or interventional. The clinical features of cardiovascular diseases will be also illustrated. The history and evolution of extracorporeal circulation as well as the pathophysiology inherent to this technique that represents the foundation of cardiac surgery will also be treated. As far as those specific aspects of nursing concern the consequences of the use of extracorporeal circulation in the clinical practice and, in general, those concerning cardiac surgery techniques will be also treated in order to orient learning towards a specific and practical awareness of the role of nursing care setting.

•The embryological development of the heart "in toto".
°Descriptive and topographical anatomy of the heart and great vessels.
-Congenital heart disease: interatrial communication, interventricular communication, Transposition of the great arteries, Tetralogy of Fallot, aortic coarctation.
-History and evolution of heart surgery.
-Extracorporeal circulation and organ protection techniques.
-Aortic valvular pathology and its treatment.
-Mitral valvular pathology and its treatment.
-Tricuspid valvular pathology and its treatment
-Valvular prostheses: types and indications
-Myocardial revascularization surgery: indications, types of conduits used, revascularization techniques.
-Ischemic heart disease and its complications of surgical interest (ventricular aneurysm, ruptured heart, acute mitral insufficiency from ruptured m. papillaris, post-infarct interventricular communication, intraventricular thrombosis)
-Acute aortic syndromes: Pathologic anatomy, clinical diagnosis, instrumental diagnosis, surgical treatment.
-Left ventricular mechanical function substitutes.
-Decompensation surgery and heart transplantation

Verification of learning:

Depending on training needs, there may be provision for tests in
itinere (including by means of multiple-choice quizzes) in order to detect the effectiveness of the learning and
teaching.
The final examination consists of an oral and/or written test by means of multiple-choice questions or short themes; at the end of the test, carried out at the end of the course, the student must prove that he or she has mastered the topics
of the course syllabus. The final examination may be taken in one
of the appointments on the calendar.
The evaluation of the test will result in a graduation of judgment along the following lines:
@sufficient but deficient basic knowledge (grade 18-22/30),
@discreet knowledge with ability to clearly illustrate the
topics (23-25/30),
@good ability to illustrate topics with ownership of language and
mastery of the subject matter (26-28/30),
@very good knowledge of the subject matter moving with ease from one
topic to another contextualizing any interconnections and/or
differences (28-30/30).
Praise is reserved for those who also demonstrate particular interest and
knowledge of the functional aspects of the professionalizing field, with
high communication and independent learning skills.
