Prerequisites:

No previous knowledge on Education is required. Good language skills, both receptive and productive, must be demonstrated by students; they must have an adequate ability to interpret and argue the proposed arguments, in a personal way. Familiarity with the main online content production and sharing tools is required.

Objectives

The course has a double register of objectives: the first one, of theoretical order, concerns both the knowledge of didacticts and training concepts, and the main didactics theories and methodologies .
The second one, of practical and operational order, concerns the acquisition of project-related skills to be spent in the different professional contexts in which educators will operate and it relates a correct use of educational mediators.
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Orient themselves among the main theories, didactic models, operational techniques.
- Know the theories of action.
- Know the training contexts and their peculiar characteristics.
- Know the theories of didactic action.
- Plan a formative and educational action in different areas of intervention
- Use media education tools to set up learning environments and intervention devices, integrated between real and virtual.
- Assume a reflective posture with respect to one's own training practices.

Extended Syllabus

The course is divided into three parts: the first one, theoretical, concerning the theories of didactic action and educational sciences; the second one, practical, aimed at making the professional educator acquire and experiment the necessary skills and abilities in the various contexts and areas of intervention in which he will be called to operate, with particular attention to the school context. The third module will be dedicated to media education and digital competences, essential for the exercise of active citizenship.
First module:
The didactic and educational action in the professional contexts and the tasks of the educator; the didactic mediation, starting from analysis of contexts and needs assessment, to design the didactic intervention; the formative dimensions of the didactic and educational action. The theories of organized action.
The main didactic models. The methodological choices in the light of the most recent didactic theories. The curriculum and its predisposition. The principles for didactic action and the theories of teaching-learning. How to structure meaningful, motivating and interactive mediation paths. The development of competences.
Second module:
The didactic/educational design. How to start a project located to solve problems and meet training needs. How to document the design path. How to evaluate the design path. The methods and phases of the design: concept of goal, purpose, objective. The reconnaissance of resources, design choices, strategies. Macro and micro-design. The evaluation and its strategic functions.
The educator's professionalism and skills: the main teaching techniques and the role of the educator. The educator's postures, between reflection and reflexivity.
Third module
Media Education: digital culture, fragment, layout and didactics. History and principles of didactic and educational technologies

Teaching Methods

The course will be organized in 48 hours of face-to-face lesson, with practical exercises and operational activities. The course includes about 120 hours of independent study.
If Health Laws and University regulations allow, teaching activities, teachers office hours’, and exams may take place online (in whole or in part). For any further information and updates, please refer to the University website.

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

Written/oral examination; During the year, case studies analysis and/or a partial test will be provided to the students.
The exams will be evaluated according to the following criteria: knowledge of the contents; ability to rework and argue according to the context; ability to grasp problems typical of professional contexts proposing solutions and management methods.
