EDUCATIONAL AIMS: Through the study of the Endocrinology, the student must learn: 1) principles of endocrine physiology with special emphasis to the notion of hormone-receptor and feed-back; 2) clinical aspects of endocrine and metabolic diseases with special attention to those commonly encountered during his professional career; VALIDATION OF LEARNING ABILITY: At the end of the course the student is supposed to be able to: 1) describe main clinical features of most common endocrine and metabolic diseases; 2) propose an in-depth description of those features of endocrine and metabolic diseases which will be more easily encountered during his/her future activity (knowledge and comprehension ability); 3) set up a specific intervention program (either diagnostic or therapeutic) for the proposed disease (applied knowledge and comprehension ability)
Program will be developed focusing on contents particularly useful for the specific Degree Course, with emphasis to the clinical aspects of each endocrine or metabolic disease; in the meantime pathogenic and physiological aspects will be shortened.
- Principles of endocrinology (hormone-receptor interaction, feed-back, circadian rythms) - hypothalamus and pituitary: common diseases; Growth hormone (GH); - Deficit and excess of GH - Thyroid diseases - Adrenal gland: - Steroids: glucocorticoids and androgens; - Ovarian cycle - Menopause and physical exercise. - Bone metabolism - Osteoporosis;
