The course examines the nervous functions starting from the phenomena of cell excitability up to the integrated functions of the sensory-motor systems, divided into four themes:
• How excitable cells can generate and conduct an electrical signal over long distances and how the electrical signal is transmitted and integrated between the excitable cells.
• Nerve functions of the spinal cord and brain trunk.
• Anatomo-physiological organization of sensory and motor systems.
• Cognitive functions of the cerebral cortex: Language, Learning, Memory, Emotions
At the end of the course the student must have acquired a synthetic, clear and reasoned vision of the physiological mechanisms at the base of the nervous functions, which is indispensable for subsequently tackling the professional subjects in a critical manner.
