As a prerequisite, students are required a basic knowledge of neurophysiology.

Objectives

The course aims at providing basic knowledge of clinical neuropsychology, by training students on critical thought at both theoretical and methodological level.

Contents

The course provides knowledge on the theoretical and methodological bases of neuropsychology, showing the clinical symptoms, the theoretical interpretations and the neural bases of the main disorders following acquired brain injuries, with particular reference to spoken language disorders.

Extended Syllabus

Theoretical and methodological foundations of neuropsychology.
Main neuropsychological disorders and syndromes: disorders of spoken and written language (aphasia, dyslexia and dysgraphia), disorders of voluntary movement (apraxia), attentional and visuo-spatial disorders (neglect), memory and executive disorders, cognitive degeneration (MCI and dementia).

Teaching Methods

The course contents are presented through lessons in lecture hall, taking advantage of power point slides (made available to the students) and of critical vision of explicative clinical cases.

The examination is written and made up of 30 multiple-choice questions.

The professor is available for meeting students every wednesday from 10 to 11 at her study (block A - Psychology). It is possible to participate to the scientific meetings organized by the Laboratory of Neuropsychology and Cognitive Neuroscience.
