Prerequisites:

No prerequisites are required, however having completed the Management and Business Organization courses represents a solid base of knowledge that can facilitate the approach to the subject.

Objectives

The aim of the course is to provide students with a solid theoretical, methodological and practical knowledge on the issues and practices of human resource management required of HR professionals. This will be accomplished by analyzing the main contemporary challenges in human resource management, considering the latest theoretical and practical developments in the field.
This will enable course participants to develop analytical, critical thinking and practical skills.

Contents

HR course will involve 48 hours of teaching time for a total number of 6 credits.

The course content will be divided into the following macro-sections:
1. HR management strategy. This section will focus on the development of organizational HR management strategy aimed at increasing its competitive advantage, as well as understanding HR department objectives (e.g. administrative and strategic).
2. HR management practices. Here course participants will be introduced to: (a) activities involved into designing employees jobs by matching organizational and employees’ needs; (b) recruitment and selection process, techniques and tools recruitment specialists use to identify and attract talents; (c) motivational aspects of HR management including intrinsic and extrinsic motivational factors, and strategies organizations adopt to increase these; (d) principal phases of employee development, as well as approaches and tools to measure organizational and individual employees’ development necessities; (e) performance management practices used to communicate to employees strategic organizational goals, to evaluate employee performance over time, as well as to reward and incentivize their commitment; (f) Compensation management, focusing on the different form of possible compensation; (g) The principles of People Analytics to analyze the status quo and future scenarios through the use of big and smart data.
3. Organizational Behaviour that focus on different aspect of the individual and group work behaviour. The section includes a focus on leadership and team building and management

The course involves 72 hours of teaching time for a total of 9 training credits.

Teaching Methods

The course will be organized with participatory lessons, discussions, individual and group exercises, scientific readings (using critical evaluation techniques) and problem solving of corporate case studies (national and international) and T group.
Moreover, students will measure themselves with a group project work (analyzing the latest developments in the field of human resource management and company best practices) which will be presented and discussed in the classroom.
Seminars will be organize in the classroom held by entrepreneurs, public and private managers who systemically address the issues of organizational design, human resource management, strategy and management.

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

Students who have attended at least 75% of the course will be considered "attending".
Intermediate learning tests are provided for attending students. More precisely, the verification of the student's preparation will take place in two moments:
a) presentation of the results of the project work;
b) final written and / or oral exam.

The score obtained with the group project work will be added in absolute value to the result obtained in the final oral exam.

Non-attending students will be evaluated exclusively on the basis of the final oral exam.
The relevance of the answers to the questions asked, the quality of the contents, the ability to make connections with other topics covered by the program, the ability to report examples, the technical language properties and the overall expressive ability of the student will contribute to the evaluation of the oral interview. .

Erasmus students can choose to take the exam in English

The seminars organized during the course with the participation of external speakers are mandatory.

Two lectures will be held each week. The duration of each lecture will be three hours.
