Prerequisites:

To be able to understand the core points of standard-language messages on work, school, and leisure topics. To be able to produce texts on familiar topics. To be able to provide explanation on personal opinions and/on individual projects. To be able to evaluate the pros and cons of the different options.

Objectives

The course aims at the acquisition of the complex structural aspects and functional features of the language. To achieve the above mentioned goal, different didactic materials will be employed and delivered. The course includes frontal lessons as well as tutorials on the topics discussed during classes.

Contents

PART 1: (6 CREDITS)
Reading comprehension of the main ideas of complex texts focusing on both abstract or concrete topics. Acquisition of spontaneous and fluent interaction skills and ability to produce clear, detailed texts on a wide range of topics.
PART 2: (2 CREDITS) Academic English.
The selected essays are grouped according to purposes for writing. Students are encouraged to develop their abilities to describe, summarize, analyze and evaluate the ideas in the essays. They are also helped to solve selected linguistic problems.

Extended Syllabus

The course aims at developing and consolidating skills in understanding and producing texts of different complexities. Particular attention will be devoted to the structures, the connectors and the cohesion mechanisms of the speech.

Verification of learning:

Final exam (1 exam per term).
To take the written exam of English Language II and English Language III in the same term is allowed. The student who fails the written examination of the second year fails the written examination of the third year too. The procedures for conducting the written exam will be illustrated during the course. The student who passes the written part of the examination has access to the oral exam.
