Within the general objectives of the Course of Study, course on performance management aims to provide the knowledge necessary to understand the methods of effective implementation of strategies. Performance management systems serve to ensure both effective implementation of strategies (control) and support learning and organizational change (surveillance). More specifically, the course offers tools for (a) designing performance management systems; (b) use performance management systems; (c) design and use performance management systems to support digital strategies. Through the use of case studies and project works, students will be able to develop performance management systems and understand the conditions if physiology and pathology that characterize them.
Results of Learning
At the end of the course, the student must have knowledge and skills related to the design and use of performance management systems. The goal is to contribute to the training of a professional figure, both as an internal profile and as an external consultant, who is able to:
- understand and translate strategies into operating systems suitable for their efficient and effective implementation. The general objectives of the course are therefore aimed at transmitting the knowledge / skills necessary to:
- design and use performance management systems;
- recognize the main internal and external criticalities that hinder or favor its design and use.
To this end, the course aim to transmit the following skills and knowledge in terms of particular objectives:
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABILITY
- describe the main performance management models;
- identify the component parts of a performance management system;
- illustrate the criticalities of each part;
- understand the internal and external factors that facilitate or hinder the design and use of performance management systems;
- identify, discuss and understand the specific implications of digital strategies on the design and use of performance management systems.
AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT:
- interpret the key factors and measures that must be included in a performance management system;
- evaluate the interactions and trade-offs between the different parts of the performance management systems;
- critically understand the impacts deriving from their use on results.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
- Disseminate through the use of correct terminology how performance management emphasizes both the culture of control and that of strategic surveillance as necessary conditions for improvement and change;
- To connect, thanks to the understanding of performance management systems, the different aspects that link strategies to their implementation
- Identify the related criticalities and problems arising from the use of digital strategies.
