The Course, consistent with the mission of the Corso di studio in Filologia, linguistica e tradizioni letterarie, aims to:
1) increase philological and literary knowledge;
2) develop independent judgment;
3) develop communication skills through seminar activities.

Specifically the aims of the Course are:
1) good knowledge of: a) Epicurean philosophy and its spread in the Roman world; b) characteristics of didactic poetry; c) structure and topics of De rerum natura.
2) evaluation of the Epicurean orthodoxy of Lucretius.
3) Knowledge of a) Lucrece’s language; b) sources and literary models of the poem; c) Lucrece’s influence on later poetry; d) Lucrece and literary criticism;
4) deepening of the study of Latin language;
5) strengthening of textual criticism competence.
