The first educational aim is the understanding of the neurophysiological mechanisms of neuronal function, starting from its basic cellular metabolism, passing by the knowledge of bioelectric mechanisms allowing for the realization of membrane and action potentials, to arrive to the biochemical mechanisms that characterize the synapse and neurotrasmitter release. A second aim is the understanding of the main organizational and integrative mechanisms of the nervous system, from both the anatomical and anatomofunctional standpoint. A third aim deals with the study of cerebral mechanisms at the basis of sensation and perception. Finally, the course will deal with the mechanisms underlying the development of the nervous system.
