Prerequisites:

The main prerequisite is the understanding of the experimental method, which will be revised during the course.

Objectives

The educational aim is the basic knowledge of the methodological problems undermining the replicability of psychological and psychobiological studies.

Contents

The course deal will address the replicability problem in the psychological and psychobiological field. In particular, its causes and possible solutions will be described. A pilot experimental study of psychobiological domain will be carried out with the collaboration of students in order to highlight in a practical way the discussed topics.

Extended Syllabus

1) The replicability crisis in psychology and psychobiology;
2) The experimental method in psychology and psychobiology;
3) Rudiments of statistics applied to psychological and psychobiological experimental studies.

Recommended Bibliography

The material required for the preparation for the qualifying examination will be provided during the class lessons.
Non-attending students will have to contact the teacher in order to receive the material required for their qualifying examination.

Teaching Methods

Class lessons (with recourse to projection of slides) combined with practical activity (consisting in the implementation of a pilot experimental study of psychological domain).

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

The qualifying examination consists in a written multiple-choice test composed of 15 items and in a written report of the pilot experimental study carried out.
