The course will complement the training of the student with knowledge and tools useful to deepen the essential aspects to better understand the role of innovation in the economy from a theoretical and empirical perspective as well as the basic and applied knowledge on networks of companies and on the main drivers of technological clusters.

Knowledge and understanding
The course aims to provide basic training on the main issues of the economy of innovation and business networks, in particular with regard to the basic conditions and structure of the sectors, research and development (R&D) policies and the innovative conduct of enterprises on the markets, and the economic performance of the same, so as to allow students to learn professionalizing content on the impacts of innovation and on the determinants of business networks through the understanding of empirical analysis in the literature.
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
At the end of the course, the student will be able to apply the analytical categories of the subject of reference to the investigation of specific phenomena and specific industrial sectors, with particular reference to new emerging industries and high technology.
The ability to interpret the innovative dynamics on the markets and relate the analysis of the structure of the sectors with the resulting innovative performance of companies and groups of companies is the main result of teaching. The student will be able to combine the knowledge of empirical studies with the literature on the economic development of the territories, and discuss the most interesting elements in relation to the individual aspects of the economy of innovations and business networks. At the end of the course, the student will be able to elaborate with greater awareness and interpret critically how innovation impacts on businesses and what is the role of new technologies.
