Objectives

The teaching provides advanced knowledge of one of the possible areas of intervention for the specialist social worker, in particular of
communication as a process of generating and resolving re-generation of conflicting relational structures and mediation as a further professional
tool for diagnosing complex social needs. (family, school, community, justice) and intervention in their specific conditions (separation-divorce,
violence and abuse, adolescence, peer group and bullying, juvenile criminal offenses, urban insecurity, multicultural integration).

Knowledge and ability to understand
At the end of the course, the student must know:
- theory and research in Sociology of the conflict;
- theory and research in Sociology of interpersonal cultural and communicative processes;
- communication as a mediation;
- social mediation;
- national and international configuration of social mediation;
- family mediation;
- national and international configuration of family mediation;
- current topics and future orientations of social and family mediation.

Autonomy of judgment
At the end of the course the student must be able to recognize the communicative origin of the conflicts and and the cases in which
mediation can be applied.

Communication skills
At the end of the course the student must know how to use the sociological language of conflict, of communication and the technical
language of social mediation.

Contents

Communication as a process of generating and resolving re-generation of conflicting relational structures and mediation as a further professional
tool for diagnosis and intervention on complex social needs of family, school, community and justice.

- Communicative dimension in the origin and in the resolution of conflicts.
- Pragmatics of interpersonal communication.
- ADR: the area of alternative resolution of conflicts and disputes.
- Civil and commercial mediation.
- Social mediation (family, school, community, juvenile, cultural).
- International and national documents and normative acts of prodromal push to the affirmation of social mediation.
- Paradigms, methods and interventions of social mediation.
- Family mediation: models and operational strategies.
- Language and communication in family mediation.
- International, national and regional documents and normative acts on family mediation.
- Training, access and exercise of the profession of family mediator.
- Future orientations of social mediation, national and international family (designs and proposals of law, harmonization of legal systems,
standardization of training, family mediation and new technologies).

The course consists of 36 hours of lessons in the classroom.

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

Learning will be verified through an oral exam. The score ranges from 1 to 30 with honors, according to the following: 1-17 insufficient, 18 -21
sufficent, 22-24 discrete, 25-27 good, 28-29 very good, 30-30 with excellent praise.
The examination procedures are the same for attending and nonattending students.
