Objectives

At the end of the course, the student will acquire the basic notions for executing and critically evaluating the main clinical laboratory diagnostic techniques.

Contents

Structure and setup of a clinical-pathology lab. Analytical cycle. Analytical variability. Collection of biological samples. Electrophoresis. Immunochemical methods. Cell counts.

Extended Syllabus

- Elements of organization of clinical laboratories and the role of laboratory medicine in the clinical context: the laboratory diagnostic process

- The pre-analytical phase, inside and outside the clinical laboratory

- The quality of the laboratory result

- Spectroscopic techniques in clinical laboratory

- Immunochemical techniques in clinical medicine

- Separative techniques

- Hematological diagnostic techniques, immunohematology, and tests for the study of coagulation disorders

-Stool examination, search for occult blood

- Chemical-physical and morphological examination of the urine

- Liquid biopsy
