The course aims at:
-Reaching the level B2 of CEFR and of metalinguistic competences associated to the B2 level;
-Learning how to use dictionaries
-Learning basic translation competences Spanish-Italian and Italian-Spanish
-Learning the acquisition of argumentative techniques and their implementation through various strategies. The set of elements that make up both oral and written communication as well as non-verbal communication will be taken into consideration.
The class is split into 3 parts:
- Spanish Language/Linguistics (4 credits): Acquisition of level B2 of CEFR; Introduction to Spanish for Specific Purposes; Spanish for Tourism; Academic Spanish
- Translation (3 credits): Spanish into Italian translation and Italian into Spanish will deal with a number of text typologies.
- Mediation (6 credits): theory of linguistic and cultural mediation; practical sessions of mediation.

At the end of the course, students will:
- have acquired the reading and oral comprehension skills, as well as the writing and speaking skills of B2 level, and a metalinguistic knowledge of B2 level
- have become aware of the challenges posed by translation at the linguistic, textual, cultural and stylistic levels
- have acquired basic documentation skills to translate short texts both informative and specialized from Spanish into Italian
In order to access this class, students need to have oral and written comprehension and production skills corresponding to Level B1 of CEFR for Spanish. In order to sit the oral exam for this class, students must have passed the 2nd year exam of Spanish Language and Translation.
The course consists of: (a) classes held by the instructor(s); (b) practical sessions held by the lector(s).
The classes offered by the instructor(s) are both lectures (aimed at providing the necessary theoretical background) and seminars (with students' active participation).
The practical sessions with the lector(s) are highly interactive and are necessary to acquire the language skills needed to successfully complete the final exam.
For these reasons, attendance of both the instructors' and lectors' classes is strongly recommended.
SYLLABUS VALIDITY
The syllabus is valid for the whole 2022/2023 academic year (until the exam session of January/February 2024). For the final grade to be officially registered, students must have successfully completed all the parts of the exam by the last session of the 2022-2023 academic year.
NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS
The syllabus is the same for all students, whether attending or not: non-attending students will autonomously revise and practice the contents of the bibliography, possibly integrating it with the additional recommended reference material.

Assesment:
Assessment for this module consists of a written and an oral exam.
It will be possible to take the two parts of the exam in different sessions (always in this order: first written, then oral).
It will be necessary to complete the exam by the last useful session of the A.A. 2022/2023 (January/February 2024).
The vote in writing remains valid until the last useful session of the A.A. 2022/2023 (January/February 2024).
The written exam consists of:
-a test based on B2 level
-theoretical questions on the bibliography
-a translation from Italian into Spanish and from Spanish into Italian
The oral exam consists of:
-B2 level conversation
-Metalinguistic knowledge of B2 level
-Readings (see above)
