The course aims to ensure the learning outcomes of the Degree Programme in Philosophy and Education Science, allowing students to become familiar with and critically assess children's literature, understood as a useful tool for designing and managing educational activities fostering literacy and reading skills from early childhood both in and outside of school contexts.

Knowledge and understanding:
At the end of the course unit students must:
- Recognise the relationship between the history of children's literature and the history of educational and learning processes
- Describe the socio-cultural developments innovating the formal, linguistic and thematic areas of children's linguistic, particularly from the 1960s onwards
- Describe the emerging trends of children's books, with particular reference to the contemporary developments in picture books, their morphological characteristics and educational potential.

At the end of the course unit students must:
- Be able to critically assess a children's literature text in aesthetic and pedagogic terms
Communication skills:
Students will be able to:
- clearly present the results of their individual studies and research using the technical language of the subject area
Learning skills
Students will be able to:
- analyse and use key educational strategies relating to book mediation, education to reading and the fostering of literacy, useful for access to teacher training programmes.
