In the BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING bachelor's degree course (Class L-9), the teaching of SCANNING AND 3D PRINTING TECHNOLOGIES module B (3 CFU ICAR / 10) represents an elective course useful for introducing students to some of the recent technologies of industry 4.0 (with a positive development trend in the biomedical sector).
The disciplinary contents are designed to create a training path that starts from 3D modelling exploiting parametric modelling, modern Generative Design and Topology Optimization tools. Subsequently, theoretical and practical concepts regarding the acquisition of geometry with 3D scanning to create a digital model are introduced. The course deals with the techniques and tools for the management and processing of the achieved digital models. Finally, the course proposes the transformation of the digital model into a code that defines the commands to be given to the 3D printers.
The course consists of a theoretical part of lectures, tutorials (in which the teacher shows the procedures "step by step" in specific software) and a group project. In the project part, students are invited to develop an application of the concepts acquired in the biomedical field with exercises directly on the machine.
