The Degree Course in Occupational Therapy falls within the class of degrees in the Health Professions of Rehabilitation (L / SNT2) as defined by the D.M. University and Research of 16 March 2007. It is divided into three years and is established within the School of Medicine and Health Sciences. The Degree Course in Occupational Therapy is enabling and therefore allows for registration in the Professional Register.Pursuant to law 251 of 10 August 2000, art. 2, paragraph 1, graduate therapists identify themselves with the type of operators of the health professions in the rehabilitation area who, in professional autonomy, carry out prevention, treatment and rehabilitation tasks, as well as functional assessment procedures to carry out their own skills provided for by the professional profile, in subjects suffering from physical and mental illnesses and disorders, both with temporary and permanent disabilities.Graduates identify the patient's health needs, with particular attention to the expectations of the subject, the family and the socio-environmental situation; evaluates the difficulties and resources regarding functionality, autonomy, and integration into the living environment; chooses the suitable interventions to allow the patient to achieve the maximum possible recovery of skills and competences in the motor, cognitive, motivational and occupational fields. It also implements specific interventions and educates family members and caregivers to promote the autonomy of the person and proposes the choice and implementation of aids and environmental changes. It verifies the achievement of the objectives set for the best possible quality of life in the patient's daily life, in the home, school-working, social environment and evaluates the quality of the results and the rehabilitation paths carried out.Graduates in the class must acquire adequate preparation in the basic disciplines, aimed at a better understanding of the fundamental elements of the physiological and pathological phenomena to which their preventive and curative activity refers, as well as the maximum ability to integrate with other types of health professionals.In addition to Italian, it is still necessary to have knowledge of at least one other language of the European Union, aimed both at the specific area of competence and at the possibility of exchanging general information.The academic year is organized in annual courses starting in October and ending in the first week of June.Graduates in Occupational Therapy are a Healthcare Professional who works in an addiction regime:- in rehabilitation services within the National and Regional Health Service- in accredited and affiliated private structures- in clinical facilities- in rehabilitation facilities and centers- in nursing homes- at the patient's home- in medical and / or multi-specialist clinics.The Occupational Therapist works in different sectors of medicine addressing all the phases of the person's life whenever there is a need for autonomy.Graduates in Occupational Therapy can also work as a freelance professional:- in prevention- in the socialin schools and kindergartens, laboratories and residential facilities for the disabled, as rehabilitation consultants, health specialists in the development of therapeutic materials and aids, and in counseling services.
