The course will allow even Students who have not specific knowledge on the subject to reach the indicated educational objectives. There is no preliminary knowledge required.

Objectives

The teaching of Economic and Social Policy adheres to the professional profile of the Degree Course, sharing its general objectives through a thematic articulation of its topics, aimed at the acquisition of specific contents within the Social Service, such as to provide the Student with disciplinary knowledge on models, theories and tools of the Social Service and a critical and scientific vision of social change, in relation to the different Welfare policies implemented in response to new problems and needs emerging from contemporary society.
At the end of the course, the student will have to possess knowledge and competences concerning welfare models and their evolution, the relationship between welfare, state and market in the different political-social declinations, specific social policies and their patterns of implementation, management and legitimization, in line with the formation of a professional figure in charge of managing and intervening in public social and private social policies.

- has a professional knowledge of the sociology of welfare, of the methodology and culture of the Social Service and of the social welfare system
- has a theoretical knowledge of welfare models and their evolution over time in relation to social, cultural, economic and political change
- distinguishes the different social policies and interventions according to the areas of correspondence and related needs

- connects problems and social needs to the related policy response methods
- autonomously interprets the relationship between theoretical models and applied interventions
- compares the knowledge acquired with the most recent approaches, orienting and updating the overall picture on teaching issues
- carries out in an oral form the general and specific considerations on the course topics, showing that they are connected in an interdisciplinary way
Communication skills
- It uses the disciplinary language of welfare and social policies
- Expresses concepts on the topics of the course and carries out personal reflections in a congruous and appropriate manner with respect to what has been learned.

Contents

The social change and the historical and economic periodizations of the development processes and crisis of the welfare state, represents the starting point for an articulated analysis of the various social protection policies, implemented in response to the new risks and needs that emerge from contemporary society. In this sense, the course proposes a critical approach to the study of characteristics and processes related to social and economic policies of welfare state and its historical evolution. Moreover, the course intends to identify the socio-economic and socio-political paths of Welfare systems, finalizing the study of the latter in the light of its relationship of third party between State and Market, which represents the principle of the unavoidable necessity of the public-private social protection system .

Extended Syllabus

Systematic articulation of the main theories, models and approaches of Welfare with respect to economic and social intervention policies, aimed at facing the risks and situations of hardship typical of the different areas of social and health integration, also in relation to the dynamics of social change and consequently, of the different protection policies.
In particular, the course will present students with the following types of economic and social policy:
1. Policies to combat poverty
2. Housing policies
3. Support policies in the education-work transition
4. The policies of reconciliation of care and work
5. Long-term care policies
6. Immigration policies.
The theoretical proposal of social investment as a scenario of social innovation for current and future welfare policies will be presented, discussed and discussed, analyzing its critical aspects and highlighting its capacity to impact on the reading of emerging needs and new social risks and trajectories of the change in welfare systems.

Teaching Methods

The course includes 36 hours of lessons divided into 3 weekly lessons of 2 hours. Teaching will be offered through lectures, educational seminars with the participation of experts and professionals, use of lecture notes, slides and other in-depth scientific and bibliographical material during the lessons, also on an e-learning platform made available by the Teacher.

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

Verification: Oral examination, carried out through questions concerning the teaching program carried out by the lecturer in the classroom and the topics of the texts foreseen therein and treated during the lessons.
Evaluation: votes expressed in thirtieths.
The examination procedures are the same for attending and non-attending students.
