Premise
The course of Composition 3 of this academic year deals with some topics within a contemporary architectural culture that for some years already wonders about:
-new ways of living that provide greater flexibility of housing;
- the search for a functional mixité, in the settlement complex but also already within the architectural block, which sees the residential destinations alternating and binding itself to public uses and collective facilities;
-the role of green: the urban landscape and the last remnants of the countryside in the city: relations with the railway, the park road, the Pinewood, the sea.
The focus of the research project will be the criticality introduced into the buildings by the new pressing climate issues and the need to respond with skillful use of passive building systems and energy technologies linked to renewable sources.
Design themes
The study area, to which the work of analysis and research applies, concerns the so-called ex-Enaip sector: some very modest buildings that housed a vocational training center have been left to decay.
The area is located on the Adriatic front between the North Riviera and the Park road, in the stretch crossed by the curvilinear path that remains of the route and the bridge of the former FEA.
The entire sector also presents widespread phenomena of micro-criminality and obvious social marginalization, as can be seen from the news in the local online newspapers.
The former Enaip is included in the Plan of the assets that can be disposed of by the Municipality, in the last place of the long list of 74 properties. The area was sold together with other properties by the Agenzia del Demanio to the Pescara agency. The goal of the municipal administration would be to use this property to make it the object of exchange with the owners of the area next to the Naiads, where the Municipality wants to build the north park for years. In practice, the owners would be allowed to build a real estate complex in the former Enaip, in exchange for transferring their area to the municipality. But this hypothesis is strongly criticized by the opposition.
The design hypothesis will try to reason on a possible compromise between new residential construction and collective spaces facing the sea, mindful of the lesson of the city garden in the three shreds of Pescara (Free Plan, Piano Cup, Case dei Ferrovieri) but without nostalgic and conservative attitudes .
We will reason by organizing the thought starting from some key words and the most significant projects that can be used as a reference:
Natural air conditioning, Complexity, Hybridization, Iconicity, Ludicity, Plurality-Articulation, Prefabrication, Reversibility, Reuse and Recycling, Vacuum-Fluidity-Porosity, collective space, infrastructural space, natural space.
Frequency
Attendance is mandatory: verification is done through frequent deliveries and collective seminars on the progress of the project.
Type of teaching
The mode is mixed:
- video projection on contemporary architecture related to housing and discussion of themes;
- ex-cathedra lesson on the themes of the program;
- discussion tables around the themes of the project.
