"G. d'Annunzio"
The proposed programme will allow students who have little knowledge of the area to achieve the training objectives indicated. There are therefore no prerequisites, but we recommend a knowledge of the notions of Physics acquired in the first year and of mathematics studied at high school.
Provide students with the basic knowledge to understand the physical principles underlying diagnostic imaging techniques and therapy based on high energy electromagnetic waves.
Physical principles underlying radiology and CT, MRI, PET and production of high energy beams in radiotherapy.
Radiology and digital radiography - x-ray generation: the x-ray tube; x-ray interaction with matter; detectors for standard and digital radiology; image formation and characteristics; CT. - Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) - physical principles underlying NMR; relaxation times T1 and T2 and contrast; spatial coding and construction of the NMR image. Functional MRI - construction of functional maps. PET and nuclear medicine - how a radio drug is prepared to obtain PET images; radioactive decay; detectors and associated noise; construction of the PET image. Linear accelerators in radiotherapy: production of radiation beams and particles.

Lectures
The evaluation method consists of oral examination and the topics under examination will reflect those discussed during the lessons and present in the program. Specifically, both the topics on the basic principles and the application of these topics to the analysis techniques applied during this course of study, will be examined. The exam mode and the evaluation method will be indicated by the teacher at the beginning of the course. The evaluation will be based on the knowledge of the topics covered by the exam questions and the students? logical-argumentative skills. For the purpose of the evaluation, the quality of the oral presentation will also be taken into consideration with particular reference to the competence in the use of the specialized lexicon.
Meetings with the students are scheduled on Mondays from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm at ITAB, Chieti campus, ONLY UPON APPOINTMENT by email: richard.wise@unich.it
