Objectives

Student has to learn etiology, pathogenesis and main clinical presentations as part of ischemic heart disease, valvular heart disease, and cardiac arrhythmias; moreover, student has to learn general principles, indications, and practical application of the main techniques of cardiological imaging.

Extended Syllabus

• Pathophysiology of the cardiovascular system.
• Ischemic heart disease: cardiovascular risk factors, atherosclerosis, chronic ischemic heart disease and acute coronary syndromes.
• Complications of myocardial infarction.
• Acquired valvular heart diseases: aortic stenosis, aortic regurgitation, mitral stenosis, mitral regurgitation.
• Arrhythmias: etiology, pathogenesis, classification, ECG presentation. Cardiac arrest.
• Main techniques of cardiological imaging: hints of echocardiography, hemodynamics and coronary angiography, computed tomography coronary angiography, cardiac magnetic resonance.

Verification of learning:

Oral examination.
The examination is held in the form of oral and provides an assessment of thirty; the exam is passed with a mark equal or greater than 18/30. The mark obtained in this discipline averages with the marks of other disciplines into the same Integrated Course.
