Prerequisites
To access the frequency of the Contemporary Interiors Course it is required to pass the preparatory courses for Interior Design 1 and Interior
Design 2. Knowledge of manual and digital representation techniques of the project. Knowledge of two-dimensional drawing software, three-dimensional drawing, project representation, project communication. Knowledge of the English language.
Contents
An interior of any nature, private or public, permanent or temporary, is a complex set of elements that build the quality of the relationship between individuals and the space they inhabit. The specific contribution of Interior Design is the historical-critical investigation of a design practice that, taking on the envelope as a starting point, works inside it, working not only on the set-up and furnishing systems, but also on the whole range of components that allow the space to be inhabited: dimension of the spaces, furnishings, lights, colors, sounds, perfumes and textures of the materials The theme of the Laboratory will be oriented to new forms of habitability in the minimum spaces, typical of recreational craft where, with respect
to the interior architecture, vary specific interconnected characteristics, such as the context and the exposure, the volumetric dimension, the movement and continuous research of balance. The subject will be treated with the support of historical references and exemplifying notions that allow a global classification of the most general issues of design.
Educational goals
The Laboratory aims to direct graduating students to a critical knowledge of project methodologies, experimental verification techniques, with
particular reference to the use of real-world simulation tools, and to stimulate the ability to translate technological innovations into new product concepts. Through the principles, methods and tools of design, the activities of the Laboratory intend to induce graduates to verify various design intent, which from time to time may favor, for example: habitability, flexibility, adaptability, customization , technological equipment, experimentation
etc. These objectives will be pursued by working on the basis of common reflections and individual impulses of creativity, urging first the common
reflections on living in contemporary society and then directing the possible articulations of study and study on topics of individual interest.
In order to reinforce the project proposals and increase their critical awareness, the laboratory will try to offer a body of knowledge that is transversal to the different and possible research themes. In particular, the disciplinary investigations will concern the culture, history and scenarios of interior design, the ergonomic aspects, the applicative potentialities of the new materials. The laboratory provides training methodologies that concern preliminary research and the definition of the project brief, the elaboration of the concept of the product-system and the development of the project
through elaborations, modeling and prototyping. Teaching will be divided into theoretical lessons, seminars and in-depth workshops and workshops aimed at design development. The program also provides free activities on extra-faculty and participation in industry conferences.
Teaching methods
The course is organized in:
- lectures offered by the teacher (lectures / presentations);
- seminars with national and international guests (monographic / seminar lectures);
- group design experience with ongoing evaluations;
- collective reviews and timely meetings (presentations and choral discussions / direct reviews); collaborations with external structures.

During the course will be on enabling communications related to specific and supplementary activities, in the form of seminars, daily workshops
and impromptu, partecipation to design contest for students.
Verification of learning methods:
The course includes:
- ongoing evaluation of pre-project research;
- ongoing evaluation of the design exercise;
- ongoing evaluation of the workshop;
The final exam will be aimed at ascertaining the knowledge of the topics covered during the course (listed in the calendar of educational activities) and evaluating the ability to discuss with a critical approach the project work carried out in the exercises.
