This knowledge will be imparted through both theoretical and practical approaches, using manuals on the history of China and Chinese literature. Concurrently, the course will delve into some of the most significant texts in Chinese literature from the 1st millennium BCE to the 10th century CE. The analysis and translation of texts presented during the lessons will enable students to observe, recognize, and become acquainted with the primary literary genres, forms, and syntactic-grammatical structures of classical Chinese.

This familiarity will not only assist students in consolidating their historical and cultural knowledge of China but also in enhancing their comprehension of the modern language and refining their translation skills through continual comparisons between the ancient and modern linguistic systems. The study of texts will also empower students to accumulate a repertoire of several hundred characters found in modern Chinese, thereby expanding both their vocabulary and their awareness, considering the diachronic perspective of the nuances and semantic implications of different characters.
