Objectives

GENERAL EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
1. Basic knowledge related to the analysis of the city and the territory
2. Skills related to the use of the main tools for urban planning
2. Knowledge of urban phenomena in their evolution and complexity
3. Ability to analyze the criticalities of urban and territorial systems

The TRAINING COURSE consists of a theoretical and an exercise component, and has the objective of teaching the use of tools and methodologies for the interpretation of the urban context aimed at the development of a medium-complexity urban project.
The KNOWLEDGE that the student intends to acquire relates to the use of: basic and thematic maps, analysis on the urban fabric and on the territory, general and sector legislation, urban parameters and indexes, representation techniques, Open Data, GIS, etc.
The SKILLS to be achieved consist in the acquisition of design skills applied on medium-complex urban contexts, as well as in the development of communication skills also through the use of specific multimedia means (video, etc.)

Contents

The course is divided into the following didactic modules:
TOOLS: Cycle of webinars where some innovative urban planning tools are provided: treatment of open data in urban planning: data search, selection of sources, methods of representation; techniques and methods of digital survey and geolocation; techniques and methodologies for the production of videos on environmental and territorial issues; use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
LESSON: Cycle of lectures on environmental and territorial issues. The lessons are inserted in the platform in streaming mode. A Live session precedes and concludes each lesson. At the end of the lesson, students take a learning assessment test.
FILM: Screening of films on environmental issues. The film is preceded by a short introduction. At the end of the film there is a debate animated by the students.
CONFERENCE: Series of conferences held by professors and researchers who are experts on environmental issues related to territorial transformation processes. Students are required to prepare a summary of the conference in the form of a note book, which will be evaluated by the professor.
WORKSHOP: In-person (or blended) exercise where the tools and methodologies learned during the course will be used. A list of topics will be provided (urban forestry, sustainable mobility, urban farming, etc ...) among which students will be able to choose the one on which to develop a project proposal.

Teaching Methods

The Urban Planning 2 course is experimental and combines moments of distance learning (e-learning modality) with workshops in presence (workshop).
It is divided into different didactic modules: Tools, Lessons, Conference, Film, Workshop.
Each module has specific educational objectives and learning methodologies aimed at helping the student to acquire: mastery with the tools of the urban planning discipline; sensitivity to environmental issues; fluency in active participation in public events; ability of critical and analytical elaboration of urban and territorial phenomena.
The Urban Planning 2A course of prof. Paolo Fusero offers students a dedicated section of the professor's website: www.paolofusero.it/didattica. The section contains an articulated set of on-line services such as the bulletin board (where all communications with students take place), the mail box, the programs, the calendar of activities, reservations, information, test assessments, etc. From the site it is also possible to download the didactic material of all ex cathedra lessons and design exercises. The course also uses a facebook group used for quick exchange of information between the teacher, tutors and students.

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

The final evaluation of the Urban Planning course consists of the weighted average of the evaluations:
1) the online test on the lessons;
2) of the final summary video of the workshop exercise activity;
3) an opinion on the student's active participation in the debate after the conferences and films.
