Objectives

The course aims to provide the basic knowledge to read, understand and translate short texts in English (both written and oral), and also to carry on a conversation, thus enabling students to develop specialist skills in the field of architecture in an international context. The expected acquisition of language structures can be traced back to levels B1-B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), according to the Council of Europe guidelines.

Contents

Lectures consist of macro-modules, aimed at the enhancement of all language skills, such as reading, text comprehension, listening, writing and speaking.
Starting from the basic phonetic and grammatical structures of the English language, the programme is cuncurrently developed by topics and linguistic structures, in order to enable students to acquire the most complete set of specialised skills.

Extended Syllabus

The course consists of macro-modules, each aimed at developing a specific language skill (writing, speaking, listening, text comprehension, translation from English). Alongside the acquisition of notions pertaining to grammar, topics belonging to different subjects are also considered (art, architecture, prominent figures and relevant architectural works, issues about environmental sustainability connected to architectural perspectives).
