- knowledge of web-based technologies for specialised translation, with examples of Machine Translation and Computer-Assisted Translation;
- basics of corpus linguistics;
- how to construct, interrogate and use a corpus for specialised translation.
(module B)
In line with the educational objectives of the Course of Studies in Linguistic Mediation and Intercultural Communication, the course aims to examine the most recent developments of the theoretical debate on translation, taking into account aspects related to vocational training.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
The course aims at providing students with theoretical and methodological instruments for the translator. Translation practices in language teaching are also discussed.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: knowledge of the main approaches to translation, of textlinguistics, of pedagogical translation.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: analyzing translations carried out taking into account text-type, textual genre, linguistic register, recipient and translation loss; using translation tools; analyzing translation activities in language teaching.
MAKING JUDGMENTS: critically reflection on the different translation approaches and translation tools.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: describing the main translation approaches taken during the course and the role of translation activities in language teaching.
