Prerequisites:

Enhancement of fundamental knowledge relating to cultural and institutional contexts of the French-speaking countries covered in the course, including solid knowledge of related historical, social and economic topics;
acquisition of specialised vocabulary relating to the cultural and institutional fields analysed;
ability to draw comparisons with other realities and to apply the knowledge acquired to analyse issues and problems of various kinds in an interdisciplinary, intercultural and international context;
ability to analyse texts through linguistic and literary reflection.

Objectives

The teaching aims to provide students with knowledge of the historical, socio-cultural and institutional French reality. The teaching aims to encourage reflection on the evolution of the language as a reflection of cultural and historical changes.

Module of 1 CFU for students who have included the teaching as a student's choice activity (TAF D - 9 CFU): The module aims to consolidate knowledge of the historical, socio-cultural and institutional French reality and to encourage reflection on the particular elements of the historical construction of French-speaking identity. Through cultural-historical references and through a careful analysis of the circular relationship between language, literature and culture, the foundations will be laid for a study of the cultural, institutional and political dynamics of contemporary France.

Contents

The general part of the course will focus on historical, linguistic-literary, institutional and socio-cultural basics concerning France.
A second part of the course covers the history of the French language, from its origins to the present day, through the analysis of documents and literary texts.
1 CFU module for students who have included the course as a student's choice activity (TAF D - 9 CFU): the module provides fundamental historical, institutional, socio-cultural and linguistic-literary notions concerning the French-speaking world and French-speaking culture in general.

- the prehistory of the Francophonie;
- the birth of the Francophonie: the history;
- the Francophonie: institutions and associations;
- the protagonists;
- the French language in the world;
- Francophonie and francophonie,
- being Francophone: meaning and debate;
- la littérature-monde en français;
- Francophonie vs littérature-monde;
- national identity and Francophonie;
- Francophonie and postcolonial discourse: debates, polemics and controversies.

Verification of learning:

Final oral test designed to ascertain knowledge of the topics covered, clarity of presentation and the ability to give a critical reading of the texts analysed.
The test will be conducted in French and the unit of measurement used for assessment will be the grade in thirtieths.
