The course aims to provide the theoretical, methodological and empirical tools to construct and conduct research and analysis with and about images. Therefore, the skills that will be acquired during the lectures and workshops will include all phases of a visual research process, in particular: The design of the study; The operationalisation of the project; The acquisition techniques of the images to be analysed; The analysis of the data collected with the use of coding software for qualitative analysis; The discussion and representation of the results.

The course will address the following topics: 1) The subjective understanding of social reality. 2) The relationship between visual image and social image. 3) Visual Sociology: evolution and techniques of analysis. 4) Visual Sociology in research design. 5) The techniques of image acquisition and analysis. 6) Interpretation of the results of a visual analysis.
