The teaching of Chemotherapy aims at the study of chemotherapeutics and antibiotics currently used in humans, with particular regard to those of more recent introduction on the market, and to the targeted use of the same.
The aim of the course is to provide student with knowledge in order to acquire skills on antibacterial, antiviral, antiprotozoal, anthelmintic, immunosuppressant, immuno-modulators and antineoplastic drugs. In particular, mechanism and spectrum of action, resistance, kinetics, therapy of infectious and neoplastic diseases, side effects and toxicity, choice of the most appropriate chemoantibiotic, use of chemoantibiotic combinations and role of chemoprophylaxis will be investigated. Also, it provides knowledge on the iatrogenic pathology induced by chemoantibiotics and on chemoantibiotic therapy in neonatal age, in the elderly and in some paraphysiological conditions (pregnancy and breastfeeding).
