Objectives

The aim of the course will be to provide knowledge on the biological and structural characteristics of microorganisms, microbial pathogenicity and clinical manifestations, epidemiology, infection control and prevention of infectious diseases well as the antimicrobial drug classes adopted for the microorganisms eradication.

Host-microbe interaction: the role of the human microbiota.
General characteristics of the main bacteria of medical interest:
Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Enterococcus, Bacillus, Corynebacterium, Listeria, Mycobacterium, Actinomyces, Neisseria, Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas e batteri correlati, Vibrio, Spirilli, Campylobacter, Helicobacter, Yersinia, Pasteurella, Brucella, Bordetella, Haemophilus, Clostridium, Spirochete, Legionella, Rickettsia, Bartonella, Chlamydia, Mycoplasma

Verification of learning:

The assessment of learning is based on an oral test. The student must demonstrate to have acquired sufficient knowledge:
-the biological and structural characteristics of microorganisms:
-the microbial pathogenicity and infectious diseases;
- The infection control;
- The antimicrobial drug classes and their use.
The oral exam will be based on three questions that will allow further in-depth study within the program carried out during the course.
