1) Frontal lessons
-Methodologies for the diagnosis of genetic diseases treated in the Genetic Pathology module (molecular principles underlying techniques for DNA amplification - PCR reaction; methodologies for the analysis and quantification of RNA molecules; methodologies for the separation and analysis of proteins (such as SDS-PAGE, Western blotting).
The ABO system, the Rh system and fetal erythroblastosis.
Pretransfusion testing for red blood cell transfusion
the direct and indirect Coombs test
maternal-fetal incompatibility and haemolytic disease of the newborn (immunological bases and clinical characteristics)
the Rh system (biochemistry, genetics, immunohematology)
primary and secondary anti-D immunoprophylaxis (sensitizing events).
2) Laboratory practice
During the laboratory exercise, the following activities will be carried out:
- preparation of agarose gel for separation of total RNA and PCR products
- preparation of denaturing polyacrylamide gel and SDS-PAGE)
- electrophoretic techniques (SDS-PAGE)
- protein reaction detection of
interest with specific antibody (Western blotting)
