The course is divided into two parts:

the first module, of an introductory nature, will focus on the main themes and problems of cultural anthropology (Culture/cultures – Culture, identity, alterity - Cultural diversity - Ethnocentrism, relativism, critical ethnocentrism -Race, racisms, discrimination and inclusion – Culture and ethnicity - Cultures and kinship - Fieldwork and current research perspectives) and on the developments that the discipline has taken on in the contemporary debate in relation to its public and applied use.

The second module, of a monographic nature, will deepen some aspects through which deviance can be declined in an anthropological sense, in order to understand how the anthropological approach can contribute to the interpretation of criminal phenomena.
In particular will be analyzed:
the issues related to violence in its various forms; violence and culture - violence and the body – gender-based violence - violence and conflicts - violence, memory, trauma); deviance and body; the interpretation of mafia phenomena and the social construction of the concept of mafias according to an anthropological approach; the role that the female figure reviews within criminal organizations and anti-mafia movements; the role of the family in criminal organizations; case studies relating to the italian, european ad extraeuropean mafia, revenge, feud; criminal anthropology and the figure of Lombroso; analysis of ethnographic cases and researches relating to different areas of the contemporary world.
