The Degree Course has a duration of three years, free access and at the end of the course students aquire a degree in Geological Sciences (Ministerial Degree Class L-34 Geological Sciences). To obtain a degree in Geological Sciences students must aquire 180 credits (CFU) by passing 20 exams, 2 of which are selective (162 CFU), three are suitability exams (14 CFU) and a final exam (Degree thesis, 4 CFU).The course provides students with the acquisition of basic knowledge for the training of a modern geologist, with adequate preparation in the following subjects: Chemestry , Physics, Maths and Computer Science and a thorough training in the disciplines of Earth Sciences, in the their theoretical and experimental aspects (Physical geography, Palaeontology, Geochemistry, Mineralogy, Terrestrial Physics, Geomorphology, Geology, Applied Geology, Geotechniques, Geological Survey and Cartography, GIS - Geographic Information System -).The theoretical lessons will be integrated with practical activities in the laboratory (microscopy, rock and fossil recognition, geochemistry, land mechanics, maps and geological sections, GIS Computer Lab). The geographical context of the University of Chieti - Pescara, located between the Apennines and the Adriatic coast, represents an ideal natural laboratory for observing and understanding the geological processes, the resources that derive from them (water, mining, geo-environmental) and the related risks (earthquakes, landslides, floods, coastal dynamics). For this reason, a considerable percentage of CFU is acquired through training activities on the spot, in the form of both daily outings and multi-day educational camps. The Course offers the possibility of acquiring CFUs abroad thanks to the Erasmus conventions with six European Universities. After graduating in Geological Sciences, graduates will be able to:- continue their studies with the Master's Degree;- access a first level Master Degree;- access to the profession as a "Junior Geologist" (Section B of the Professional Register of Geologists), after passing a State exam;- be hired as a non-responsible geologist (technical functions) in public institutions, companies and professional offices. The University of Chieti - Pescara offers direct access to the Master's Degree in "Geological Sciences and Technologies of the Earth and Planets" (Ministerial Degree LM-74 Geological Sciences and Technologies).
