The course aims to focus on the nineteenth-century literary in Portugal and Brazil, capturing the economic and social changes that occurred as a result of the Industrial Revolution in the century in which Brazil won its independence. The focus will be on the question of national identity, a central theme in nineteenth-century thinking, which in Brazil also emerges strongly in works influenced by literary currents of European origin, creating a completely new "literary métissage".
