Giacomo Leopardi was not only a poet and a philosopher, but also a language historic. His observation on the evolution of languages weave together, especially in Zibaldone but also in Discorsi and Operette, to the ones on the nature, practice and costumes of people. Numerous reflections on the sense and the properties of translation from one language to an other connect with the one of the taste and strength of opinions. In his reflection concepts of language, translation, metaphor, are connected with the ones of society, public, trend. The course aims to give the essential tools of text analysis, giving light, on the same time, to the complex thought of the author.
